Equipment and tools for baselinestudies andmonitoring environment have been procured and the unit routinely carries out sensitization of miners and communities onenvironment, social, health and safety issues related to mining activities. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development hasproposed a structure that will mainstream the SEU under DGSM and a permanent staff member has been assigned as head of the SEU.However, by the end ofthe project the staff and activities of the unit that have been funded by the project will come to halt. TheMinistry of Public Service has to approve the budget in order to mainstream the SEU into the regular civil service. The requestwill be included in a petition to Parliament.
